Laguna Beach High School Surf Team got underway last Wednesday with a Non League event at Salt Creek against Aliso Niguel. It was beautiful morning with really fun surf in the 4-5ft range and the entire team dominated each and every heat taking all the top spots. It was really nice to see how well the entire team surfed.
Hudson Saunders, and Maddox Rapp got things started with Mens Shortboard, connecting on a number of high scoring rides to go 1 and 2, Hudson finished with the days highest heat total of 12.9.
Our Women surfers had a big day surfing both Shortboard and Longboard. Seasoned competitors Scout Mitchell and Lilie Kulber, along with Freshman Kaelyn Chism did really well in both the heats. They took the top 3 spots, with Scout having some nice rides and coming out in front in Short Board and Lilie with the Longboard win charging on some large sets.
Our other Mens Shortboard surfers followed up where Hudson and Maddox left off with some standout performances and great surfing on multiple waves to secure the heat Wins for Jaxson Hutcheon, Christian Schenk and Ryan Halloran. Freshmen ripper, Matthew Vermilya was close behind finishing in 2nd, while Dane Cameron and Gavin Campbell had 3rds and Gavin Pike had a 4th.
For Mens Longboard Christian took his second heat win of the day while Cooper Laws took a 2nd and Freshmen Vincent Wallstein shook off the nerves of his first contest to catch some nice rides and finish in 4th.
