LBHS Tops Scholastic Surf Series events, Shark make up and Event #4, Individual Champions Booth, Coscino, Kelly and Thompson

We had an extremely busy weekend of surf events between the NSSA at Seaside Reef and the SSS at Golden West in Huntington Beach.

Last Sunday The Scholastic Surf Series started the morning with their make up event, which had been cut short in January with the Shark sighting at Huntington Beach. The waves had been great previously, but this time around Golden West was extremely difficult to surf. The Laguna surfers gave it their all and some how managed to take control. Travis Booth with a buckled board was able to edge out Noah North for the win, while Liam McCue surfed well taking 4th and Jake Levine also with a buckled board took 5th. In the Girls Longboard Kayla Coscino was so dedicated she came up to HB and won her Longboard Final and then went down in the afternoon to San Diego and Won the NSSA State Final in Girls Shortboard. Meanwhile Destiny Thompson did well finishing 2nd. Claire Kelly took the big win in Girls SB and Destiny Thompson took 2nd.

Following the completion of the Make up event. We started the next event with Team competition. Laguna Beach High school was up against El Torro and defeated them by a very large margin 72-8.

In addition in the individual competition Laguna Beach surfers had total domination with representation in each division Final. The surf and weather continued to be terrible with wind and rain, but the kids continued to keep a great attitude and shine. We had 5 Boys shortboard surfers out of 6 in the finals and they all did great. Sam Nelsen came away with the win, Liam McCue did great in 2nd, Holden Geary put in a good showing in 3rd, Jameson Roller borrowed a beater board and took 5th and Jett North was 6th.

Sam Nelsen made it two big wins for the day also taking out the Longboard while sharing a wavestorm with Holden Geary. Jameson Roller finished runner up while Holden took 4th. Girls Longboard saw our girls do great Destiny Thompson took the win and Claire Kelly took 2nd on the her Wavestorm. She also surfed well on her short board and won Girls Shortboard while Destiny took 3rd. The Boyboard Final saw Hunter Johnson do well and take 2nd.

The next Scholastic Surf Series event will be March 26 at San Clemente Pier. While the State Championships will be in April 21.

Thank you to all the Parents who supported us helping with the tent, having to deal with the rain, wind and cold weather, providing food and good cheer.
