LBHS Surf Had Great Showing Coscino, Danbara Go 1 and 2 at NSSA Regional State Championships
We
had a very busy and successful weekend for the Laguna Beach High School
surf Team surfing in various High School competitions. Starting on
Saturday our school competed for the first time in a long time at the
NSSA Interscholastic Regional State Championships and had a tremendous
showing. Our Girls took top honors, with Kayla Coscino taking 1st and
Kalohe Danbara taking 2nd.
Our boys also did super well making several rounds and helped Laguna Beach High School to finish an impressive 4th place
overall out of 11 California schools with a total of 86 points. Noah
North, Jake Levine and Trey Lockhart all made it to the Quarter-Finals
with some really nice solid surfing being done. Travis Booth also was
killing it, winning his first round to add to the team points, but
unfortunately was eliminated by a questionable interference call. Good
efforts were also put in by Kiko Nelsen, Jeremy Shutts and Dante
Madrigal.
The
event was held at Seaside Reef, Cardiff by the sea in North County, San
Diego and surf on Saturday was pretty good and contestable, with both
right and left peaks available. Sunday Afternoon our girls were back in
action for their Final which saw the weather change and get quite windy,
but the girls still managed to navigate the conditions really well
getting some high scores to put them out in front!
With
this great showing, Laguna Beach will be competing in the NSSA High
School National Championships, which are held at Salt Creek in June.
Thank you to all the Parents and team who supported us helping out with the tent, providing food and good cheer.
