LBHS SURF GIRLS TAKE WIN OVER NEWPORT HARBOR, WITH COSCINO AND FISHER OUT IN FRONT

The Laguna Beach High School Surf Team surfed very strong today, in a league event against Newport Harbor, with our Girls the big overall winners and our boys coming in just shy of the overall win. It was a beautiful sunrise with interesting clouds, barreling 3-5ft surf and warm air and water on tap.

Our Girls Shortboard and Longboard team scored major points for Laguna very much dominating the competition. In the Shortboard our girls took a clean sweep with, Kayla Coscino taking the win, Claire Kelly in 2nd and Destiny Thompson in 3rd. Meanwhile Lola Fisher took her first Longboard win, while Kayla did double duty and had an impressive 3rd place finish.

For part of the morning Laguna was holding a lead Thanks to the Girls effort and also some good performances in Boys shortboard and also Spencer Davis took a 2nd in Bodyboard and we really felt like we would be able to win this event.

Noah North opened the day with a 2nd and Nate Madigan was 3rd. Meanwhile Travis Booth has been super strong this season and again looked on his game taking 2nd and Jake Levine had a 3rd. In the final heat of the day our boys gave it their best shot trying to overcome the deficit that we had fallen into. Jeremy Shutts took a big win, ripping on a borrowed board after breaking his this morning in warm up, his second board break in less than a week. Liam McCue also put in a noteworthy performance with a buzzer beater to take 3rd. In the end we were 6 points shy of the overall win 81 to 87.

Thank you to all the parents and friends who showed up to support our Laguna kids.
