LBHS Surf Takes Big Win Over El Toro At Scholastic Surf Series Event #3, Top Overall Wins and Finalists Scout Mitchell, and Tyson Lockhart

We had a big win on Sunday at the Scholastic Surf Series Event at 9th St in Huntington Beach. We started out the day with Team competition and Laguna Beach High school was up against El Toro. Everyone surfed really well as a team and we took the overall win by a large margin 60-18. Some of the Team surfed in multiple divisions with a lot of success and the whole Team advanced to the individual competition.

The surf was 2-3ft with extreme tides, very high in the morning and minus tide in the afternoon. The weather was nice and sunny, but as the day went on the wind came up which didn’t help the conditions. Despite the conditions our surfers did outstanding. When the day came to a close we had a number of finalists and top results. In both the Women’s Shortboard and Longboard Scout Mitchell took her second SSS season Win, while Mia Moore did well to take 2nd in Shortboard.

For the Men Tyson Lockhart led the way with a Win in Bodyboard and a very close 2nd overall In the Mens Division. Other top Finalists included Christian Schenk, taking a 3rd in Shortboard and also did double duty in Longboard taking a 4th. Bastian Evans had several outstanding heats to take 5th overall in Shortboard making his first SSS Final. Meanwhile Cooper Laws continued to Standout all day in the Longboard, and finished the day runner up for the second event in a row. Other surfers to do well were Dane Cameron and Tate Warner who just missed out in the Rep and Gavin Pike who also surfed well in a couple of heats and helped the Team in the Win.
