LBHS Surfers Successful At Scholastic Surf Series Event # 1 and The Final League Event against San Clemente

It’s been a busy four days for LBHS Surf with The first Scholastic Surf Series event at 9th st, Huntington Beach and a couple of League events against San Clemente.

The SSS was on Sunday morning at 9th st in Huntington Beach where Laguna had a team bye and our surfers went straight into the individuals. We had a couple of Wins and several Finalists to kick start the series. The surf was good and the weather was hot and it was a really fun successful day for all the Laguna participants.

Scout Mitchell led the way taking her first overall wins for the season in both Shortboard and Longboard. Also competing really well in both divisions was Mia Moore who was neck and neck with Scout and finished 2nd in Shortboard and 3rd in Longboard. Dylan Zoller also has a big Win in Bodyboard despite not feeling well.

Tate Warner was another surfer to compete really successfully in both Shortboard and Longboard taking 5th overall in each. He had a breakthrough with some very impressive, memorable waves along his way to each of the Finals. In Shortboard both Holden Geary and Tyson Lockhart had a number of top heats that they ripped and they found their way to the Finals where they finished in 3rd and 4th. Meanwhile others to surf well and get some nice rides, but came up a little short of advancement was Bastian Evans and Gavin Pike.

In League competition today the surf cooperated and we were able to host San Clemente at Thalia and things went better this second go around than they had last Friday. Our Women’s Shortboard didn’t back down and took the overall Win. Lilie Kulber took a break from studying on the beach to finish in 2nd and Tess Booth was just behind her in 3rd. In Longboard Jade Howson was the top finisher with a 4th.

Christian Schenk and Kiko Nelsen took control of their heats. They locked in some nice rides, that included big turns, floaters and power carves to each take Wins. Joseph Schenck, Sam Nelsen and Tyson Lockhart also surfed well and finished in 3rd as did Cooper Laws in Longboard.
