LBHS Surf Takes Big Win Over J Serra At Scholastic Surf Series San Clemente Event #3

We had a big win on Sunday at the Scholastic Surf Series Event at San Clemente Pier. We started out the day with Team competition and Laguna Beach High school was up against J Serra High School. Everyone surfed really well as a team and we took the overall win by a large margin 60-36. Despite being short a few team members due to illness, everyone did what they could with some of them surfing multiple divisions. The whole team advanced to the individual competition.

The surf was pretty small and inconsistent, but decent shape allowed our surfers to pull off some good rides. The weather was nice and sunny with light winds. When the day came to a close we had a number of finalists and top results. The top Finalist for LBHS was Tess Booth who led the way with a win in both the Women’s Shortboard and Longboard. While Kelly Smith traded off with some impressive surfing of her own to take 2ndin Shortboard and Jade Howson also surfed really well in Longboard to take 3rd. In Boys Shortboard Liam McCue, surfed really strong all day on his fresh new board and ended up with an impressive 2ndplace finish. Meanwhile Tyson Lockhart had a great day, with several top scoring heats, but unfortunately couldn’t get a wave in the Final and settled for 6th. Dylan Zollar has been scoring big for Laguna in each of the events and took 2ndfor the third time in a row. Freshman Tate Warner was fun to watch surfing in several hts in Shortboard and Longboard while Jackson Jenkins also did well in the first round surfing in dual divisions as well advancing to individuals, however he wasn’t feeling well and had to leave after doing his part in the Team competiton.

The next Scholastic Surf Series event will be Feb 10 in Huntington Beach.
