LBHS finishes 3rd in the NSSA National Championships

Jake Levine and Kayla Coscino
Coscino, Levine Lead Way to Great Result For LBHS Surf At NSSA National High School Championships

We had a long and successful weekend for the Laguna Beach High School surf Team finishing 3rd overall out of 17 High Schools at The NSSA National High School Championships. Leading the way were Finalists Kayla Coscino taking 5th in the Girls Shortboard and Jake Levine taking 6th in Boys Shortboard. These two surfers put together some really strong performances along the way to their Finals.
It’s been many years since Laguna participated in this prestigious event and the whole team did outstanding to help the team finish so high. We have had a really special team this season and this result just topped off the year. The entire team made it through the first round with everyone doing so well.
In Boys Shortboard Travis Booth, pushed on hard making it through several rounds with exciting buzzer beater rides. He narrowly missed the Final, taking 9th overall. Meanwhile Jake Levine rode his way to the Final with some great rides on his new board, having a buzzer beater ride of his own that scored an 8 out of 10! In addition there were other great performances put in by Quarter-Finalist Kiko Nelsen as well as senior Dante Madrigal who did double duty also competing in Longboard. Noah North is another Senior who surfed very well and along with Madrigal will be missed in future events. Finally Jeremy Shutts and Kalohe Danbara in the Girls Shortboard had some early solid performances to help the team with the top finish.
The event was held at Salt Creek and it was a great weekend with fun surf and beautiful hot weather.
Thank you to all the Parents and team who supported us helping out with the tent, providing food and good cheer and a nice beach picnic at sunset after the Finals waiting for the awards.
