Coscino and Levine lead with Finals Representation and Great Performances at Scholastic Surf Series High School Team and Individual State Championships
The High School competitive season has come to an end. On Saturday Laguna Beach High School Surf Team competed at the Scholastic Surf Series High School State Championships held at Oceanside South Jetty. Laguna Beach High School surfed in the Team competition against various High Schools amongst the different divisions.
The Surf for the event was about 3-4ft with some offshore fun conditions in the morning. Our Boys Shortboard was up first against Half Moon Bay High School. The boys did great, with the first heat seeing Vann Allen scoring big points for the team as did Travis Booth and Jett North. In the second heat Big brother Noah North was ripping scoring big and Nate Madigan and Dylan Davis also did well. The third heat saw great surfing from Liam McCue, Dante Madrigal and Jameson Roller doing double duty and when the points were counted our boys advanced in the team competition. Next up they advanced to face off against top seed San Clemente. Again the boys surfed hard and gave it their best, but were unfortunately eliminated for the day.
Our Girls Longboard surfed competing against Malibu. Lola Fisher, Anika Pitz and Rachel Kenny all scored some nice rides to tie with 10 points each, however breaking the tie they were edged out.
Our Longboard boys were much the same surfing against Malibu. Jameson Roller had a great heat as did Dylan Brashier and Gaal Shonfeld, but were edged out by a point.
The Girls Shortboard came hard against Malibu with Kayla Coscino, Claire Kelly and Destiny Thompson all doing their part. They took the win and advanced on. Later on in the day they were pitted against San Deguito and put on a great show but unfortunately were eliminated by 1 point.
Our Bodyboard team of Cole Fink and Spencer Davis did a nice job against Edison and again tied but were just edged out on the tie breaker.
Monday saw a whole new day of competition as some of the Laguna kids came back and competed in the Individual High School State Competition and really made their presence known. There was some fantastic surfing performances put in by several of the team members. In the end we had two division Finalists. Kayla Coscino came super close to the big win taking 2nd overall in Girls shortboard and scoring some excellent 9 point rides along the way. Our other finalist was Jake Levine who also scored well throughout the day and finished 5th overall in boys shortboard.
Other noteworthy shortboard performances were put in by Zach Levine missing the final to take 7th. Travis Booth had one of the highest scoring waves of the day in his round 3 heat and looked strong, going all the way to the semi finals. Meanwhile Liam McCue also put in a couple of good performances as well. In the boys Longboard Jameson Roller surfed strong to go all the way to the semi finals, while Claire Kelly did well in girls shortboard and Cole Fink in Bodyboard.
A big Thank you to all our team support including the parents led by Lori Levine
