GREAT SHOWING FOR LBHS SURF AT INDIVIDUAL LEAGUE FINALS, KAYLA COSCINO LEADS THE WAY

The Individual League Finals Surfing Championships were held at Upper Trestles yesterday and today and Laguna Beach High School Surf Team did very well. The event saw the top kids from Laguna up against San Clemente, Dana Hills and Newport Harbor going for individual honors. The first day of competition was Boys Shortboard and our boys as a whole did outstanding and better then any previous year. We had four boys making it all the way to the Semi-Finals with both Zach Levine and Trey Lockhart narrowly missing the Finals with an =7th finish and surfing really strong throughout the competition. Meanwhile Travis Booth and Jeremy Shutts also made the Semi-finals ripping the day into =9th. Making it to the Quarter-Finals and also surfing very impressive along the way were Jake Levine, Liam McCue and Noah North. The surf was fairly small in the 2-3ft range and the early morning light offshores, made for a very cold early round of heats both days.

Today’s competition saw a decrease in the surf, but The Girls Shortboard along with Girls and Boys Longboard and Bodyboard all gave it their best shot. Our girls have been so solid all year and again had a great showing in the Finals. Kayla Coscino has been super impressive in her freshman year and today nearly took it all, finishing 2nd overall, while Claire Kelly also did really well making the final and taking 5th. Meanwhile in Girls Longboard, Lola Fisher competed really well taking a solid 5th and Megan Mathews did well getting to the Finals and took 6th. Our Boys Bodyboard and Longboard put in a good effort, however just missing the finals was Cole Fink, Jameson Roller and Gaal Shonfeld.
